European Portuguese reduces unstressed vowels strongly and often sounds more consonant-dense. Brazilian varieties generally preserve fuller vowels and different rhythmic patterns. Reading alone hides this difference, so choose region-labelled audio.
Grammar and interaction
Pronoun placement, progressive constructions and preferred forms of address differ. Portugal commonly uses estar a + infinitive where Brazilian Portuguese frequently uses estar + gerund. Spoken subject and object choices also vary.
